A holiday in this part of the world can provide wonderful highlights to savour for a lifetime. Wonderful beaches, tranquil scenery and plenty of history are just some of the great attractions that can be visited and seen. The area is made up of a number of regions, including the hugely popular Norfolk and Suffolk, which both have areas outstanding natural beauty. Norfolk, situated in the most northern part of the region, has many seaside resorts with wonderful beaches, such as Great Yarmouth, Waxham, Cromer and Holkham Bay. Norfolk Coats has been awarded the status of an ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’. However, Norfolk is probably most well known for the Broads, where visitors can enjoy over 120 miles of waterways, which consists of seven rivers and 63 broads. A trip to Norfolk isn’t complete without at least a day on a barge or similar, it is highly recommended exploring this area which has been recognised as a National Park. Other attractions in the area include Sandringham House, one of the Queen’s residencies, which can be visited throughout the year. For the family, Norfolk has numerous theme parks and zoos which represent an enjoyable yet good value day out for everyone. The county town of Norfolk is Norwich, which provides an array of offerings such as museums and galleries, theatres and cinemas. Slightly to the south, Suffolk is another pretty holiday destination for tourists. It is made up of a number of attractive towns and villages, boasting beautiful architecture, some of which was made during an enviable history. There are several picturesque examples of places worth looking at and exploring, such as Hadleigh, Mildenhall and Lavenham. One of the more famous places around is Bury St Edmunds, a thriving market town. There you can visit several interesting attractions, such as the Cathedral, the Benedictine Abbey and the Greene King Brewery. Any animal lovers should visit Newmarket. The home of British horse racing, the town is noticeably orientated by horses, with the roads, fields and imagery dominating the area. The races, on a flat course, take place between spring and autumn each year. Suffolk has also been noted over the years for the significant finds within the area that are seen as having archaeological importance. Many of the findings can be viewed at local museums throughout Suffolk. Essex is also a place that offers several interesting attractions. History has played a big part in the development of Essex. There are some fine examples of this on display, such as Hedingham Castle or Waltham Abbey, and both can be visited by tourists. There are also attractive sea side towns in Essex that have facilities for everyone to enjoy. Examples of these are Old Harwich, Clacton on Sea and Walton on Naze, which have lovely seafronts and piers. However, the region has other counties nearby that are worth spending a day in and having a look round. Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire all have tourist attractions covering similar areas, such as art and culture. The east is an area which is made for exploring and keeping busy, and could be well worth a visit if this is your thing.
